Foreign Languages
A foreign language is one that is spoken in another country, or one that is not your native language. Students usually have the opportunity to learn a foreign language in school, either at the elementary, middle, or high school levels. Two common languages that students take in school are Spanish and French. Higher levels of education might offer more choices like Latin, German, or even Mandarin. One option for students is to learn a new language online, as online activities offer fun and effective foreign language practice.
One of the hardest parts of learning a foreign language is learning vocabulary for that particular language. While many of the words might be similar to words that students already know, there will still be a lot of new words to learn. They also might need to learn new grammar concepts, phonic patterns, or spelling rules. To learn a new language, it takes practice, practice, and more practice. Memorizing can be quite a chore, so making it a little more fun can help students get excited about learning.
Online games are one way to practice in a way that will help students practice and have fun with it at the same time. The multisensory nature of online games helps all students learn, especially English language learners (ELL) and students with special needs, such as children with autism.
There are also many learning tools online. If students need to know a word in another language, it’s as simple as doing a search for it or looking it up in an online language dictionary.
