It seemed to take us by storm in the late 80’s and 90’s… online learning made an impact that has changed the world. How we learn, how we communicate – it has all been affected. But, what’s the future?
I see online education as a major role player in the future of education. But, things may change a bit.
- For the elementary level I think continued use of resources to elevate understanding and retention will continue. I think there could also be a major shift toward individualizing education in order to make it more efficient for the student.
- For the secondary level I can see a more streamlined process of colleges and universities giving more input regarding the courses that students take. This can be beneficial in order to insure a more efficient study model directly incorporating the goals of the student. Students who use online learning to study independently are meeting their personal needs directly.
- At the college level, I can see a similar alignment where the goal more directly affects the process. Employers may one day be requiring a specific pathway of study and preparation for certain career options.
- Online schooling resources abound. No longer are we constrained by what we know. A simple search and we can find out just what a high school transcript looks like, as well as homeschool report card templates.
In any case, it will be an interesting future with online learning making a continuing impact on American and global education.
What do you think the future holds for online learning?
